Memphis will receive Vinicius from New Orleans and the draft rights to Badiane, as well as cash considerations, from Houston. New Orleans will obtain guard/forward Bonzi Wells and guard Mike James from Houston. Houston will receive guard Bobby Jackson, guard Adam Haluska and a 2008 second-round pick from New Orleans along with the draft rights to Lishouk from Memphis.
Vinicius (Va-NEE-Shus), the 43rd overall selection in the 2006 NBA Draft, has averaged 2.2 points in 5.3 minutes in 13 games for New Orleans this season. The 6-8, 225-pound forward was a member of the Brazilian Men’s National Team at the 2007 FIBA Americas Men’s Championship and holds NBA career averages of 1.9 points in 6.6 minutes in 26 games.
Badiane (Muh-LEEK Bah-Dee-En), a 6-11 center, was drafted 44th overall by Houston in the 2003 NBA Draft. Badiane has since played professionally in Germany and was a member of the Senegalese National Team in the 2006 FIBA World Championship.
Lishouk (Sir-GAY Leesh-CHUK), a member of the Ukrainian National Team, was the 49th overall pick in the 2004 NBA Draft by Memphis. The 6-11 forward also participated with the Grizzlies’ summer league teams in 2005 and 2007.
